Sikorsky CH-53K

The Sikorsky EWR (Engineering Work Request) program focuses on acquiring materials and design allowables for the CH-53K heavy lift program. Various geometry test samples will be fabricated from titanium, aluminum and other exotic alloys to determine the mechanical properties of these materials. Test samples will be fabricated at Aurora’s West Virginia facility and will include specimen layout, machining and final finish processing. The fabrication processes for these samples require various surface finishes and inspection methods which will mostly be performed in house at Aurora Flight Sciences.

The second part of the EWR program will use both forged and plate titanium to fabricate trial joint assembly configurations to support the design of the CH-53K heavy lift program. These assemblies will be fabricated completely at Aurora’s West Virginia facility and will undergo a 500 hour salt spray test prior to testing by Sikorsky Aircraft Corporation.
