NASA Awards Future Vehicle Aircraft Research Contracts

WASHINGTON, Oct. 6 -- NASA has awarded research contracts worth a total
of $12.4 million to six industry teams to study advanced concepts for subsonic and supersonic
commercial transport aircraft that could enter service in 25 to 30 years.
NASA's Aeronautics Research Mission Directorate selected teams led by
The Boeing Company, GE Aviation, Lockheed Martin Corporation, Massachusetts Institute of Technology and
Northrop Grumman to receive separate 18-month study contracts valued at approximately $2 million each.
The Phase 1 research projects are listed below, including team members and
award amounts.
Development of Subsonic Ultra Green Aircraft Research: The Boeing Company,
Georgia Institute of Technology, GE Global Research and GE Aviation; $1.9 million.
Aircraft and Technology Concepts for an N+3 Subsonic Transport:
Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Aurora Flight Sciences, Aerodyne Research Inc.,
Pratt and Whitney and Boeing Phantom Works; $2.13 million.

AVIATR Award of $139M IDIQ
Aurora Flight Sciences Corp., of Manassas, Va., is being awarded an indefinite
delivery/indefinite quantity contract for $139 million. This action will provide
the Air Vehicle Integration and Technology Research program research to develop,
demonstrate, integrate, and transition new air vehicle technologies and prototypes
that will provide affordable, revolutionary capabilities to the warfighter.
The technology developments will provide cost effective, survivable air vehicle
platforms capable of accurate delivery of weapons and cargo worldwide.
At this time $99,186 has been obligated. AFRL/PKVC, Wright-Patterson AFB, Ohio,
is the contracting activity. (Air Force Contract #FA8650-08-D-3856 0001)
